Antisana Trekking - 4 Days

This trek takes you to one of the most scenic and spectacular routes of the eastern cordillera. You will walk through thick Polylepis Andean forests; you will cross high passes, come across high moorlands and lava lakes.

You will be amazed by the impressive view of the snow-capped volcano Antisana.

Day 01: Quito - Hacienda El Inga – La Dormida
Day 02: Antisanilla Mountain – Volcano Lake
Day 03: Antisana – Laguna Volcan
Day 04: Thermal hot springs of Papallacta - Quito


Detailed Itinerary:

You will depart by jeep in the morning from Quito to the Hacienda El Inga. In this small Indian village you load your gear on horseback and set off toward the valley of La Dormida. You cross a huge Polylepis forest. After a 5-hours walk you will set up your campsite by the river at about 3.600 m. -/L/D

On today’s hike through the wide Paramo (Andean highlands) you will cross a pass of 4.000 m near the Antisanilla mountain. You cross huge valleys, rivers and will get to know the typical Andean flora such as Puya Puya, Stipa Ichu etc. At the end of today’s hike you descend to a volcano-lake and pitch up your camp at 3.500 m. Today your trek leads you uphill in order to reach the high plateau of Antisana. Passing the huge volcanic massif you can see its impressive glaciers and with some luck the condors that nest in the rocky walls of the Antisana. In the afternoon you establish your camp at Laguna Volcan. B/L/D

Early in the morning you will head towards the end of the plateau to catch amazing views of Antizana. Then you descend towards Papallacta where you can enjoy a relaxing bath in the hot thermal springs of this small town. In the afternoon you drive back to Quito. B/L/-

Included in the price :
Private transportation, English speaking guide, meals according to the itinerary, collective camp equipment such as dining tent, 1 or 2-pers. tents, toilet tent, foam pad, tables, stools, kitchen gear etc., cook, pack animals, entrance National Park, rubber boots, first aid assistance, the guides are equipped with cell phones.

Not included in the price:
International flight, accommodation and food supply in Quito, personal equipment, tips, travel insurance.

What to bring with you:
Personal equipment, daypack, backpack, sleeping bag, sun glasses, sun block, rain clothes, torch, hat, trekking shoes, warm clothing, canteen, camera and film (100 ASA).

Note:
Although this is a moderate trek, it could be very hard if you are not properly acclimatized. You need to be ready and prepared to walk on trails as well as on cross-country terrain, marsh and forests. Do not expect to find well-marked trails like in the Alps or the National Parks of the USA.
